Well, finally I will work steadily with KDE4 .
One of my usual applications is 
pidgin, instant messaging client. And it is very useful sound when you get a message. 
But in KDE 4 (at least on Debian) does not ring. Luckily San Google Blessed knows everything (do not know if too) and sent me to 
http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?/topic/43987-help-pidgin-has-no-sound/ (albeit in Mandriva). The solution works. Translated: I had the same problem with Pidgin in Ubuntu 7.10. This should work:
1 In Pidgin, select Preferences from the Tools menu (or press Ctrl + P)
2 Click the Sounds tab
3 In Method drop-down list, select Command 4 In the Command input box for sound enter the following commands: aplay% s 5 Select an event with a sound assigned to the Sound Events list
6 Click the Preview button. You should now hear the notification sound
7 Click the Close button
